How a prize wheel works

A physical prize wheel is simple: you spin it by hand, it clicks as it turns and it gradually stops on a segment. Behind it is a mechanism built for events and a process we keep simple for you. Here is how the wheel works, how it is set up and what hiring or buying one involves.

The mechanism

What makes the wheel spin, click and stop

The disc is spun by hand on an axle. Around the edge it has a row of pegs and a fixed flipper that brushes against them as they pass. That makes the classic “click, click, click” and, at the same time, gradually slows the wheel until it stops on the winning segment.

The rigid PVC graphic printed with your design sits on the disc. The 120 cm wheel stands on a black stand, with wheels or legs depending on the venue. The 180 cm wheel has a metal floor base.

The number of segments is up to you: 8, 10, 12, 14, 20… Just tell us when you ask for a quote.

Hire

Six steps, from quote to collection

  1. Request a quote

Hire or buy, model, quantity, date, venue and whether you have artwork.

  2. Book

We confirm the date with a deposit.

  3. Artwork

Your full-size PDF on our template, or a design we create for you. At least two weeks before.

  4. Set-up

We bring the wheel and set it up in about 30 minutes. We always allow an hour.

  5. Your event

The wheel works on its own. If you want someone to run it, we can suggest a promo host or an entertainer.

  6. Collection

At the end, we dismantle the wheel and take it away.

Buying

And if you buy it

If you would rather own the wheel, the process is similar: you tell us the model, size and number of units, we confirm the lead time, shipping and warranty in your quote, prepare the design and ship it anywhere in Spain. Tabletop wheels are made in a few days plus shipping.

We explain how to set it up so you can use it as often as you like. And when your campaign changes, we print a new graphic. More details on how to buy a custom prize wheel.

Requirements

What you need at the venue

Access

The 120 cm wheel fits in standard lifts. The 180 cm wheel needs a goods lift or street-level access.

Space

About 120 × 60 cm of floor space for the 120 cm wheel, and 180 × 60 cm for the giant one. Leave room in front for the player.

Two people to move it

One person can spin it with no effort. If it needs moving, two people are better.

No staff included

If you need one, we add a promo host or an entertainer from United Events.

During the event

How to run a prize wheel at your event

  • Explain the mechanic in one line. “Leave your email and spin” or “one spin per purchase”. Even better if it is written next to the wheel.
  • Keep the prizes on show. Seeing the gifts makes people want to play.
  • Let the player spin hard. The more turns, the more excitement.
  • Celebrate every prize. The applause draws more people than the wheel itself.
  • Have plenty of prizes. At a busy event, spins come thick and fast.

This site is about physical wheels. If you are looking for a digital wheel for a screen, ask us: United Events has one too.
